Satluj — Story & Background

A neutral, factual overview of what Satluj is about and the real history it draws from.

Satluj is a Punjabi-language drama directed by Honey Trehan, produced by RSVP Movies and MacGuffin Pictures, and starring Diljit Dosanjh, Arjun Rampal, Kanwaljit Singh, Suvinder Vicky and Geetika Vidya Ohlyan. It premiered on ZEE5 Global on 3 July 2026.

What the Film Is About

Satluj is a dramatised interpretation of a real, sensitive chapter of Punjab's recent history. Its central character draws from the life of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra. Out of respect for the film's creative choices, and to avoid reproducing copyrighted script material, we keep the on-screen plot summary intentionally high-level here. For a fuller picture, please watch the film on its official platform.

The Real-Life Background

Jaswant Singh Khalra was a Punjab-based human rights activist who investigated and documented cases of enforced disappearances during the state's insurgency-era decade. His work, and his own abduction in 1995, remain among the most widely reported chapters of Punjab's recent history and have been covered extensively by mainstream Indian and international media.

Satluj is a work of dramatic fiction inspired by these events, not a documentary. Where the film adapts, compresses or reimagines real events for storytelling purposes, those choices belong to the filmmakers.

Title Change: Ghallughara → Satluj

The project was originally announced under the title Ghallughara. It was later released as Satluj following certification-related revisions ahead of its digital premiere. The full specifics of that process have not been publicly detailed by the producers or the certifying body, and we do not speculate here.
